How do you synchronously charge two capacitor banks at +100kV and -100kV?
For the upgrade of a ±100kV Marx generator, a customer approached Technix with a specific requirement: charging a positive and a negative capacitor bank simultaneously, while controlling both chargers as a single system.
To meet this requirement, Technix supplied a CCR100kV-2.5kJ capacitor charging solution designed for synchronized, symmetrical operation.
The system combines:
• +100kV and -100kV capacitor charging
• Synchronized control of both chargers as a single system
• A digital control interface via optical fiber
• Electrical isolation between the high-voltage section and the user’s control system
• Reliable communication in a demanding EMC environment
Another key challenge was the voltage level itself.
Capacitor chargers are typically available at significantly lower voltages.
Thanks to our high-voltage expertise, we were able to provide a 100kV capacitor charger specifically adapted to the requirements of this Marx generator.
